Description

Monochloroacetic (chloroacetic) acid is an acetic acid, where one hydrogen atom of a methyl group is replaced by a chlorine atom.

Applications

MCAA is mainly used in the production of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC).

MCAA can also be used in the preparation of thioglycolic and phenoxyacetic acids, in the production of herbicides, indigo coloring pigment.

MCAA, in addition to the above, can be used in the synthesis of surfactants, polymer stabilizers, cleaning agents.

Safety and regulation

The MCAA should be kept tightly closed in a cool, dry place.

Work with the MCAA should be carried out using an appropriate respirator or a full-face gas mask, acid-resistant gloves, goggles and other protective clothing. At the end of the work should take a shower and wash the eyes.
