Butyl alcohol or Butanol GOST 5208-2013 is a colorless slightly viscous liquid with a specific odor of butanol oil. Butanol is used as a solvent in the paint-and-varnish industry in the production of nitrocellulose varnishes. Butanol provides special drying of coatings with no dull matte color and prevents clouding of varnish films. Butyl alcohol is used as a raw material in production of butyl acetate, butyl acrylate, glycol ethers and other organic products; as one of components in many mixed solvents to improve solvent properties; to obtain plasticizers (dibutyl phthalate, tributyl phosphate); as modifier of urea- and melamine-formaldehyde resins; in production of float agents.
